NIGHT' Chapter 1' part1&2

Part 1: I think that the author doesn't literally mean death, the tone is very depressing. The way he speaks of death reminds me of the people in *th roll, they are dead people walking, though they are not really dead they will be dead. The yellow star to Elie's father symbolizes death, because everyone with the yellow star (the jews) are destined to their death.

Part 2:
Who is Moche the beadle? Describe him. Moche the beadle, was a man of all work, he was very poor and lived humbly.
Who is Elie and what is he like? Elie is a little Jew boy, he is in his search for meaning, and he is always crying and praying.
What evidence shows that he is very religious? What are his studies? He studied the Talmud; he always goes to the synagogue and weeps and prays, and he wants his father to find him a master to guide him through the studies of the cabbala.
What is going on in the country at the time? At the time Hitler is taking over, the mass destruction of all Jews.
What were some signs showing that trouble was ahead? Some signs that showed there was trouble ahead were that; they took Moche the beadle and almost killed him, the rights of the Jews started being limited they were in tough restrictions, they couldn’t have valuable jewelry, and they had to wear the yellow star.
List the things that happened after the leaders of Jewish community were arrested. Three things that happened after the Jewish community got arrested; Jews had to wear the yellow star, The Jews couldn’t travel anywhere or take the train, and they were not allowed out in the streets after 6:00pm.
What were the Jews asked to do after father came home? The Jews were told to pack their belongings, they were getting deported.
What could they bring with them? They could only bring their personal belongings clothes and food.
Describe the mood of the community. Everyone was very sad because they were leaving, all their things behind from memories to belongings.
what did his mom keep repeating? Why? Elies mom kept repeating “We must keep going, we must keep going.” She kept repeating that to stay optimistic and to give strength to her family not to give up.
Where were all the people sent to? All the people were sent to ghettos.
Where did Weisel’s family go? Weisel’s family got sent to a smaller ghetto.
How was the travel like? Comfortable 4 stars ?hotel? Describe in detail. The travel was horrible; the synagogue was like a huge station: luggage and tears. The altar was broken, the hangings torn down, the walls bare. There was so many of them that they could barley breath. They spent a horrible 24 hours there.
