How does Wiesel treat his father during the journey to Buchenwald and later during his dad's illness? How does Wiesel’s link to his father affect his will to survive?
Wiesel encourges his father to keep going, and he takes care of him and supports him, he doesn't want his father to die or to kill himself, so Wiesel takes care of him anyway he can.
Given their life or death situation, do you believe Wiesel’s attitude toward his father was understandable? Explain your reactions
Yes, it is understandible because, when somone is struggling to survive, it is hard to survive for somone else espcially if you have been starving, and real exhausted, even though he is his father, survival of the fitess"
Elie weeps (cries) several times in the book; explain when and why. Explain one time he does not weep when it would be expected.
He cries many times in the beginning of the book, he doesn't weep when his father died, he was sad that he didn't weep, but even though he wanted to he couldn't. All his tears were drained out of him he cried so much that he couldn't cry anymore.
What feelings and thoughts went through your mind as you read about Wiesel’s final experiences as a German prisoner? What would you say if you could talk to him about this time in his life? What would you want him to explain to you? I just think everything the Jews went through was so sad, did they really deserve all of that? I would want him to tell me his worst nightmares, and his worst stories.
