What is the significance of the book's final image, Wiesel's face, reflected in a mirror? He writes that a corpse gazed back at him, with a look that has never left him. What aspects of him died during his ordeal? What aspects were born in their place? What do you make of his observation that among the men liberated with him, not one sought revenge
I think the ending of the book was really interesting, the fact that he has not seen himself in the mirror for so long, and finally he gets a look at himself, after all the hurt and all the pain everything he has been through and finally he saw himself, I understand that it looked like he was looking at a dead body, it is like doing all the drugs without the high. Some aspects of him that died were his emotions. some aspects that were born were, rebellion. I understand why they didn't look for revenge in the beginning, they were starving, the first thing I would do is eat
as well but Iwould more rather seek revenge than go sleep with women. Or would I...
What is the symbolism of the word "night" in the book?
The symbolism for the word night is darkness, where all the worst thingd happen, darkness like black, emptyness.
How is Elie’s moral struggle an important element of Night?
Elie through out the book struggles alot with his emotions, getting weak but at the same time getting stronger. It is important because it gives us the meaning of the word night.
Why do you think survivors often feel guilty?
I think that survivors often feel guilty, because they didn't seek revenge and they fought their own blood for food, the practically went insane in there, and now that they are free they have to live with the guilt of what they did.
What hints of hope does Elie offer us?
I think that Elie throughout the book he gave us a lot of hints of hope, he never gave up on himself and he never gave up on his dad, to tell you the truth Iwould so much rather be dead.
Why is this book relevant today?
REflect, think about this based upon the whole book and how Elie has grown from an innocent young boy to who is is at the young age of 15. How do the people Elie interacts with strengthen or diminish his hope and desire to live? Talk about his father, Madame Schachter, Juliek (the violin player), the French girl, Rabbi Eliahou & his son, the Nazis. Which of their actions touched you the most? Find at least 2 people and explain his relationship and how that person has influenced Elie.
Tell one person in your life that has strength your hopes, faith, or desire of life. Who has influenced you the most, how does this person do that? Which of their actions touch you the most? ( 5sentence)
There is actually two people in my life that has strenghten my hopes, and faith and desire of life, and that is my moms and pops, they grew up in the gehtto slums of Tijuas, with broken familys, it was real easy for them to do the same to my brother and I, but even though it is hard they have done anything they could forus to have a real good life and they have tried to be there for us too and since i could look back at thierestruggle then look at them now, it gives me strength and hope.
